June 14, vs Team China (4-1 Win)

    Glory's MySpace blog entry.

    Game recap.

Tonight we faced a team that had me very concerned: the National Team from China. I couldn't find much recent info on the net about them, but the players are at least candidates for their Olympic team when they host in 2008. I expected a tight game, especially since two of our best players were missing. Sarah Pauly and Kelly Kretschman are at the US National Team camp in California. Helping me cheer on the home team tonight were Stash, Shannon, and her dad.

With Sarah out west, Desiree got the start, and proceeded to strike out the first 2 batters before giving up a double. The clean-up hitter grounded out to Oli to end the inning. The Glory also went 1-2-3-4 in the first, which included a double by Amber Jackson. Desiree started the second inning started off kinda like the first, with 2 quick outs. But three straight singles plated a runner, and Team China had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Fortunately, they failed to properly scout catcher Callie Piper's arm, and the runner was thrown out stealing third to end the inning.

Sara Larquier started of our half of the second with a walk, scoring one out later on a double by Stephanie Best, to tie the score at 1-1 after two innings.

The top of the third included a one-out double, but two infield grounders left the runner stranded at second. With one out in the home half of the third, back-to-back singles by Amber and Oli brought Sara to the plate. She promply lined a hook-shot around the foul pole for her league-leading third home run of the season.

With the score 4-1 after three, I turned to Stash and said that this was all the runs we would need. It turned out to be true, fortunately, since it was also all the runs we would score. Desiree held China scoreless through the next 3 innings, and "closer" Jen Musillo came in to pitch a scoreless seventh for her first save of the year. Desiree improved to 4-1 on the year.
