Game recap.
Tonight's game marked the return of Sarah Pauly and Kelly Kretschman from the National Team camp.
Sarah remineded everyone of what we had missed by pitching a complete game shutout,
giving up just three hits while striking out 9.
The Glory waited until the 4th inning tonight before scoring. With one out, Oli got us started with
a line shot to left-center. One batter later, Stephanie Best hit a no-doubt bomb, her second HR of the
season.
We added an insurance run in the 5th. Nicole Barber pinch-hit for Callie Piper, laying down an
excellent bunt. The throw from the pitcher was not controlled by the second-baseman covering, allowing
Nicole to take second. The next batter, LaDonia Hughes, hit a shot back to the pitcher, who turned and
caught Barber between second and third. Nicole stayed in the rundown long enough for Hughes to reach
second, and the play ended with both runners on second base. Team China tagged them both and let the
umpires sort it out. Nicole was called out, leaving Hughes on second with one out.
Hughes took third on a wild pitch during Kelly Kretschman's eventual walk. Catlina Morris
brought Hughes in with a sacrifice fly to right.
I also want to give props to our other National Team camp returnee, Kelly Kretschman, for a sweet
play in the outfield. The leadoff batter in the top of the third lined a hard, one-bouncer to Kelly
in center field. She immediately threw to first, even though there was no chance to beat
the runner. However, she was thinking one step ahead, and the runner rounded first as the ball
was in the air. Oli took the throw and tagged out the very suprised runner as she returned to first.
Nice play, Kelly. It's good to have you and Sarah back.
