Just wanted to note that they got this game started about 1/2 hour early, so that might mean the Glory game
could be earlier than planned as well. The sound on my video feed has died, so it's tough to follow the game right now.
Also, I'm getting rumblings of thunder here at the house, so if I fail to update later on, it might be due to lack of power.
Audio back on. Serena Settlemier vs Alicia Hollowell.
MacKenzie Vandergeest's 3-run opposite field HR gives Rockford the lead in the middle of the third.
Butler's one-out HR gets Akron on the board, and opens the floodgates. Benyi walks, McCoy doubles. Rockford coach,
not known for smart moves, brings in Abble Sims to pitch, even though it seems she never warmed up. She throws
a wild pitch to score Benyi, then walks Poore. Brilliant coach brings Settlemier back in, while Zilles runs
for McCoy at third. Juarez squeeze-bunts, scoring Zilles. Lei grounds out 4-3 to end the inning, but the game is now tied.
Veronia Wootson saves game for Akron in the top of the 7th, at least temporarily. First and second with one out, she made
a diving catch on a ball that seemed to already be past
her and into the outfield, then recovered and threw to second to double-off the runner. She then came to the plate in
the bottom half, 2 outs, nobody on. She leads the league with 7 game-winning hits, 3 of which were home runs. She strikes
out to force extra innings.
8th inning gives us some drama as both teams get 2 runners on base.
Hollowell works out of the jam in the top half, and
Cat Osterman, brought in at the start of the bottom half, gets a called
third strike to end the inning (her third K of the inning).
Poor base-running costs Rockford a run in the top of the ninth, and they do not score. It is about 8:30, and the game continues.
In the bottom half, Cat strikes out 2 more (now 5), and Akron fails to score. Top of 10th will start with a runner at second.
Rockford scores in top of 10th. Starting with Gardner at 2nd, Vandergeest is walked. After a couple of fielder's choices
forcing runners at third, Jamie Davison (inserted when Cat came in, for defensive purposes) hits a shot just over the fence in
center, although Benyi made a nice attempt at catching it while running through the temporary fence. They have a 3 run lead for
Cat to finish off in the bottom of the 10th.
