August 8, Spy Softball Interview with Nicole Barber

'm sure many readers already know about Rayburn's website, but for those who don't, here's a good reason to check it out.

I wanted to add my two cents about a couple of things mentioned in the interview. Even on the last day of the home season (Sunday), I talked to someone who had just heard of the team and the league the day before. We really need to start harassing the local media around here. The Glory clinches the regular season title, and there's not even a blurb in the Post?

Also, I heard from an inside source recently that the players really love Coach Carie. (The same could not be said for the Rockford coach, by the way. You could tell he was a jerk just by watching the games, and most or maybe all of his players do not like him, according to my source.)

I have to admit, I can tell just from watching Carie during the games that she has a fun, playful personality. I remember a time when she was yelling encouragement from the dugout to Desiree on the mound, and she started calling her Desiloo, which eventually became "looney tunes", causing Des to laugh so hard she couldn't pitch.

I bring this up because the interview mentions team unity and spirit as factors in our successful season. Based on what my source tells me, I would have to say that the relationship between Carie (as well as assistant coach Erin) and the team played a big role in our taking first place in our very first season. Sooo, I'll have to keep this in mind, and maybe go a little easier on her in the future. (No promises though.)
