Glory Drafts Women's College World Series Star Taryne Mowatt and 2 others.
In what might eventually be deemed piling on, the Glory likely wrapped up
another NPF Championship by adding yet another star pitcher to our already imposing staff.
We all fell in love with Arizona's Mowatt during her incredible performance last spring
in the WCWS (at least I did). With Taryne, Desi, Sarah, and new addition Lisa
Ferguson (drafted but unsigned in 2007), we will have more excellent pitchers
than allowed by law.
Our second draft pick was used on a local girl from Mississippi State
(originally from Haymarket, VA), Courtney Bures. She will provide another glove
in the middle infield (since we lost Amber's backup from last year, Brooke Marnitz),
as well as speed on the bases. Our last pick was Cambria Miranda, a
utility player from Oregon State.
Here's the story.
It seems that the other NPF teams have learned from our example, and have been trying
to improve their pitching as well. The Bandits didn't draft a pitcher, but they traded
for both Amanda Freed and Kristina Thorson. The Force had the top 2 picks in the draft, and
both were pitchers: Katie Burkhart (Arizona State) and Megan Gibson (Texas A&M).
Akron also drafted up a local girl, pitcher Angela Tincher from Va Tech, and another
pitcher, Kate Robinson from Hawaii (but this one hits like crazy, too). The Riptide
followed the pattern, drafting pitcher Anjelica Selden from UCLA. Rockford drafted
pitcher Lauren Eckermann from Oklahoma.
Even with all these new players, I still feel that we have the best 3 pitchers in the
game. Combined with our league-leading hitting, I expect another winning season.
