February 19, 2008 Glory Roster Takes Shape

As listed on the Glory website, here is the team we hope to put on the field. Keep in mind that the 2008 Draftees cannot be signed until after their college season ends.

Our strength will once again be pitching: NPF Pitcher of the Year Desiree Serrano, Sarah Pauly (third in strikeouts last season), new addition Lisa Ferguson (standout at Baylor), and star of the 2007 WCWS Taryne Mowatt (2008 Draftee). Monica Abbott is expected to miss most or all of the season with the Olympic team.

Infield is where we keep our power hitters (the top 3 NPF HR hitters in 2007 all played infield for us): Amber Jackson, Oli Keohohou, Nichole Thompson, Jen Chamberlin, Stephanie Best, new addition Bianca Cruz, and Courtney Bures (2008 Draftee).

At Catcher, last year's starter Callie Piper returns, but Germaine Fairchild does not. Sharp-eyed readers will notice that the list of infielders did not include Sara Larquier. Instead, she is listed as a catcher. I will share my thoughts about this in a separate post.

Our weakest link is the Outfield, due to the absence of Kelly Kretschman (also with the Olympic team). The remaining 4 outfielders from last season all return: Catalina Morris, Jessica Moore, Nicole Barber, and LaDonia Hughes. Our third draftee, Cambria Miranda, put up some impressive numbers last year at Oregon State while playing mostly left field. So if she can do the same for us, she will be a great addition to the team.
