    June 4, Rockford's Vojik Blasts 3-Run Walk-Off HR in 9th to Beat Glory 6-4

    Game recap.

    NPF website story.

I am among the 240,000 in Northern Virginia currently without power. I drove down to my mom's house in Warrenton so I could post this (and put some food in her freezer).

Sorry that the link provided did not seem to work. I had hoped to hop online around game time to verify it myself, but that was not to be. I just took a quick look around the Rockford website, and I could find no evidence of any internet radio coverage. Perhaps someone can get in touch with one of the players in Rockford and see if they can ask around?

Anyway, they are saying it could be days before all power is restored, so if I don't post, that is why. I'm doing a post for each of the games in advance, just in case anyone gets any info they want to post in a comment. Once normalcy is restored, I'll try to use the NPF recaps to summarize the games.

Okay, it's Friday, I'm back at work because my power went out again, and doing the summary from the NPF recap. Better late than never.

Ouch. I've decided that walk-off hits are much more fun at home games.

Sarah Pauly vs Megan Brown tonight. (Even the Rockford website preview thought that Cassidy Scoggins would start. Wrong.) Pauly gave up an unearned run in the first with a bases-loaded plunk of Rockford's Victoria Batistella, but Rockford gave that run back, plus another, in the top of third. With two outs and Morris on 2nd, Brown hit Bures with a pitch, walked Moore, then walked Piper to score a run.  She then thew a wild pitch to allow another run to score. After walking Dignon, Brown was done for the night. Allison Kime came in and got Hughes to ground out to end the inning. Up 2-1 after 2 and a half.

No more scoring until the top of the 7th, when Bures doubled and scored on Moore's double. But that 3-1 lead would not hold up. A single and a walk put the tie run on base with no outs. Pauly then struck out Erin Evans, but Beth Boden's single scored one, and put the tying run 60 feet away. Audrey Rendon then singled, and we were all knotted up. Pauly worked out of the jam with no more runs scoring, to give us our second extra-inning game of the season.

No scoring by either team in the 8th. We scored one run (unearned) in the 9th thanks to a passed ball, and Piper's RBI single. But again the lead was not enough. After two quick outs, Rendon reached on an error by Dignon at second. After an infield single, Sandy Vojik's HR ended the game.

At a quick glance, one might think that Pauly had a bad game, giving up 6 runs. But only 2 of them were earned, while striking out 12 and walking just 1. She is currently (as of Friday) the league leader in ERA, and second in Ks. We just need to tighten up our defense a little, and we'll be fine. Pauly took the loss to fall to 2-1, and Kime got her first win to even her record at 1-1.
