June 5, Glory at Rockford (4-2 Win)

    Game recap.

    NPF website story.

Placeholder in case I still have no power.

Okay, I'm at work now (Thur 10 PM), and checking out the NPF recap of tonight's game. Sadly, no play-by-play (yet), so I'll have to see what I can gather from the box score. I have no stats with me, and I'm doing this game before recapping the Wed night game, so I'm not going to comment on too much, stat-wise.

Lisa Ferguson started, and pitched her first professional complete game. She shut out the Thunder through 6 innings before allowing 2 runs in the 7th. Since we had scored 4 runs, that was enough for her first win of the season. She allowed 2 doubles, 5 singles, and 2 walks, while striking out 5.

The box score is notorious for not giving the actual batting order, so I won't comment on that.  Interestingly, we were able to score 4 runs on just 2 singles, but we also reached base via 6 walks and 3 (!) hit batters. The 2 Rockford errors were also huge, as 2 of our 4 runs were unearned. Jessica Moore drove in two runs, with Courtney Bures also getting an RBI. The only other hit of the night belonged to Jessica Dignon. Along with RBIs, both Moore and Bures scored for the Glory, as did Oli and Nicole Barber. Bures committed the only Glory error of the evening, which did not lead to an unearned run.

For Rockford, Cassidy Scoggins started, and pitched 5 innings before giving way to Megan Brown. Scoggins gave up all 4 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits, 5 walks, and 2 HPB, while striking out just one. Brown's relief effort (2 innings, no runs, 1 BB, 1 hit, 1 HPB) was much better than her outing last night against the Glory. On Wednesday, she pitched just 2 and 2/3 innings while walking 6 and hitting 2 batters.

Fergurson is now 1-0 on the season. Scoggins took her first loss, to fall to 2-1.

Looks like timely hitting and Rockford's poor pitching and fielding gave us this win tonight. Of the 9 hits last night, 8 were against Allison Kime. We only have 3 hits over about 1.5 games against Scoggins and Brown. Considering that we were able to hit Osterman and Settlemier last year, who are MUCH better pitchers, I expect to see some offense over the next two nights from our ladies.

I want to thank everyone for bearing with me while I'm powerless, and especially Paul for keeping everyone up to date for me.
