Game recap.
NPF website story.
Placeholder in case I still have no power.
I had games tonight, and when I returned home at 10:30, still no power.
I called the company, they claimed an 11 PM fix time. Since they told
others in my neighborhood a 10 PM time last night, and power didn't
come back until 5 PM today, I am skeptical. So I showered and came back
to work. It's now 11:30, and I'm reviewing the recap from tonight's
win. (Paul already gave us the results, 7-3 Glory win.)
The first thing that jumps out at me is two more errors tonight, and
another unearned run. We are on pace for more than double the errors
that we committed last season, 75 to 34 (though over 48 games instead
of 44). We lead the league by far in errors, nearly doubling our
closest competitor. These errors have lead to 9 unearned runs, while no
other team has more than 3. I realize that we have some new players,
and both Courtney Bures and Jessica Dignon have been forced into the
games perhaps earlier and more often than originally planned. But even
our returnees are committing more errors than last season. This is a
team-wide problem that needs to be addressed soon. (Okay,
infield-wide.) End of rant.
Strangely, the NPF recap's play-by-play is listing only the scoring
innings tonight, rather than the whole game. Since that makes it easier
to read anyway, I'll just briefly summarize our scoring. In second,
Bures scored on a Larquier RBI groundout. In the 5th, Bures had 2 RBIs
on a single which scored Barber and Hughes. Moore then singled both
Bures and Oli home for 2 RBIs as well. The final Glory runs came in the
seventh, when Bures scored yet again on Best's double, and Best later
scored on Piper's single. That 2 run inning gave us a 4 run lead in the
7th, likely squashing any Rockford hopes for another 3 run walk off HR.
Bures had an awesome night at the plate, getting on base 3 different
ways in 4 at-bats (single, walk, HBP), driving in 2 and scoring three
more herself. Jessica Moore, Stephanie Best, and LaDonia Hughes had 2
hits each, with Best's double the only extra-base hit on the night from
either team.
Another great complete-game effort from starter Sarah Pauly. She gave
up 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 1 hit batter, while
striking out 7. Sarah now leads the league in Ks, ERA, and is tied for
first in wins.
Pauly got the win, and is now 3-1 on the year. Allison Kime took the loss, falling to 1-2.
End notes: Courtney Bures leads the league in times being hit by
pitch (4), though I don't know if she really wants to. This was the
third straight game with no Glory HRs.
