July 2, 5 Glory Ladies Were on Sports Talk Radio This Morning

The morning show called the Sports Junkies on WJFK was graced by Nichole Thompson, Nicole Barber, Bianca Cruz, Taryne Mowatt, and Callista Balko.

I would have written about this ahead of time if I had known about it. Fortunately, one of my players who occasionally attends games was listening, and clued me in. I don't know if they have any audio recordings available on their website, but they did take some pictures this morning.

I think I missed the first few minutes, but from what I heard, there wasn't a whole lot of softball talk. There was much talk of things that could be done to get the word out, and get fans in the stands. Seems these "junkies" are typical males, so some of their ideas were what you might think. The idea of using the ladies' "sex appeal" to market the team was a big topic. To my surprise, some of the ladies had already discussed such things. One even commented that she would be open to whatever it takes to get fans in the stands. (I couldn't recognize voices, so I don't know who said this.)

I've tried hard to discuss (mostly) the athleticism of the ladies, but I will admit that these ladies are nice to look at, too. It was refreshing to hear them talk about going to baseball games to enjoy the "view" if you will, so it seems they don't mind if that's a reason for some fans to come out to a game at Westfield. (And yes, this is why the white pants are better, in my opinion.)

I also heard from this show that there will be a calendar available at some point. It will be family-oriented photos, though it sounded like some of the ladies would have gone for some PG-13 pics instead.

The show has an upcoming search for what they call junkettes, which are scantily-clad females used in promotions for the station. The guys invited our ladies to come out and help with the search. The date of July 17 conflicts with the start of our next homestand, so they even said they would move it up to the 16th so our ladies could attend. Gotta give the station credit for being willing to do that.

Since this was a sports talk show, with some pretty good ratings I believe, I think was one of the best marketing moves I've seen so far. Hopefully we'll see a surge at the games tonight and the rest of the week.
