August 15, Glory Beat New England 2-1

    Game recap.

    NPF website story.

Erica Beach vs Taryne Mowatt in game 2 of the 4 game series, originally scheduled for Friday August 15th, but played as the first game of a double-header on the 16th.

Beach did not shut us down as much as she is capable of doing. She gave up 7 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 8. Fortunately, we were able to combine 2 of our hits with 2 walks to score twice in the 5th inning. With 2 outs, leadoff batter Nicole Barber drew a walk, and scored on LaDonia Hughes's double. After a walk to Amber Jackson, Oli singled home Hughes.

Mowatt continued her recent string of great pitching, and was able to make these runs stand up. She had a no-hitter into the 5th, but the no-hitter, as well as the shutout, disappeared on one swing from GW assistant coach Lisa Iancin. Although that was the only run of the 5th, things got a little dicey in both of the next two innings. Twice, the Riptide had one-out, 1st-and-2nd situation, but Mowatt was able to work out of the jams with double plays, preserving the victory.

The Glory remain tied with the Chicago Bandits in 1st place with 2 games to go. But the Bandits own the tie-breaker with us, so we need some help from Rockford to get the first seed in the playoffs.
