August 16, Glory Lose Game to New England (5-1) and First Place to Chicago

    Game recap.

    NPF website story.

    Desiree Serrano vs Jocelyn Forest.

We had Forest's number last night, but that is no longer the case. Forest allowed just 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks, striking out 8. Our only run came in the second inning,  Without the exact play-by-play, I'm going to guess. Cambria Miranda scored the run, this I know. She's not in the lineup, so she pinch-ran for someone. Without Piper and English in the game, the logical choice would be Oli. Oli is now batting 4th, behind Amber, so she lead off the inning with one of her 2 walks in the game. Miranda likely moved to second on one of Sara Larquier's 2 singles. Two batters later, Miranda scored off the bat of Callista Balko for our one and only run of the game.

Unfortunately, Desi did not have the shutout stuff tonight. In fact, the first 3 Riptide batters got aboard. Two of these runners then scored, thanks to an RBI single by Lisa Modglin and a sac fly RBI by Lyndsey Angus.Although we cut the lead in half in the top of the second, New England added 2 more runs in the home half. This time it was a 2-RBI single from Jackie Pasquerella to make it a 4-1 game.

If we had been hitting, we might have had a shot, as Desi then kept New England hitless until the 6th. They added 1 more run in the 6th to make the final score 5-1.

New England will face Chicago in the first round of the playoffs, while we will face Philly. Whether we are second or third place will be determined tomorrow. A win gets us second place, anything else keeps us in third.
