March 18, Report on the new Facility at GMU

One of my faithful readers recently attended a George Mason softball game at the new facility, and sent along her thoughts. (Thanks!) I thought others might be interested, so here they are:

It's nice in many respects but doesn't offer much seating.  There is bleacher seating right behind homeplate but no other bleachers on either baseline.  There is a viewing area above the bleacher seating with a couple of tables and some small benches, this is a nice area.  There are bathrooms in this area. This is a nice concrete flat area that allows for good viewing but no seats are in this area other than a couple benches for two and the tables.

[For Glory games,]  right now, the amount of seating would not be enough.  There might be space to add seating down the baselines but there is no netting to protect the fans if that is done.  When I was there several foul balls came that way so netting would be needed.  It's a very hilly area.  I doubt they could add actual seats with backs to the bench seating area since it is made of mostly concrete platform.  I didn't notice any numbers on the bleachers but I didn't look that closely either.

The new stadium provides a more quaint atmosphere, where people can easily move around in the viewing area.  The old stadium offered much more seating but less freedom for fans to move around and still see the game.  [...] it looks clean and nice with brick buildings for the bathrooms and scorebox/announcing station.
